1,000 transport workers in Rangpur get PM’s assistance

The district administration distributed foodstuffs among 1,000 transport workers affected by the Covid-19 pandemic as humanitarian assistance from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday afternoon in the city.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-General) of Rangpur Md Golam Rabbani distributed the foodstuffs at a function arranged strictly abiding by the health directives in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic at the Central Bus Terminal premises in the city, reports BSS.

Each of the 1,000 transport workers received a sac containing five kgs of rice, two kgs of potato and pulses each and one kg of salt to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic during the current lockdown.

On the occasion, the ADC urged everyone to stay at homes, regularly wash hands, use masks and abide by the health directives and hygiene rules to prevent further spread of coronavirus for safety of their own and others.

He said livelihoods of the jobless transport workers, poor, middle and lower middle class people, workers and unemployed people of different professions during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic have been affected.

“The district administration has stood beside jobless, destitute, unemployed and helpless people with humanitarian assistance of the Prime Minister during the epidemic situation,” he said, adding that needy people will continue to get assistance across the district.

District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer ATM Akhteruzzaman, General Secretary of Rangpur District Motor Workers’ Association Abdul Mazid and other leaders of the organisation were present.
