112 Covid deaths, 4,271 fresh cases

Breaking all previous records of fatalities, Bangladesh reported 112 deaths in a single day from complications of COVID-19 on Monday.

With this, the death toll rose to 10,497.

During this timeline, 4,271 fresh cases were reported, taking the total virus cases to 7,23,221.

Health authorities also reported 6,364 more recoveries over the preceding 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 6,21,300 according to data released by the government.

In the last 24 hours, 260 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country tested 24,212 samples. With this, a total of 51,94,219 samples were tested in the country.

Of the newly deceased persons, 71 are from Dhaka, 19 from Chattogram, 10 from Khulna, five from Rajshahi, one each from Barishal and Mymensingh, three from Sylhet and rest two from Rangpur division.

The infection rate is 17.68 per cent in the last 24 hours, compared to the samples tested, while the overall infection rate is 13.92 per cent.

So far, the recovery rate is 85.91 per cent and the mortality rate is 1.45 per cent.

China reported first death from the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province, on January 11 last year.

Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus case on March 8 last year and the first death on March 18 the same year.

According to Worldometer’s COVID-19 data, the deadly virus has killed 30,35,109 people globally and infected 14,21,02,302 as of today afternoon.
