114 Covid deaths, 5,249 new cases

Bangladesh on Tuesday reported 114 new deaths from novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till 8 am, taking the total death toll to 25,513.

The virus caseload surged to 14,72,964 after reporting of 5,249 new cases, according to the latest government data.

Meanwhile, a total of 8,907 Covid-19 infected patients made recovery, taking the total recovery counts to 13,81,763.

Dhaka division reported the most daily deaths and new cases as it saw 42 fatalities and 2,960 cases. Chattogram registered 29 deaths and 1,029 cases, and Khulna 13 deaths and 276 cases.

As many as 34,708 samples were tested across the country, yielding the positivity rate of 15.12 per cent, while the recovery rate is 93.81 per cent and the mortality rate 1.73 per cent.

China reported first death from the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province, on January 11 last year.

Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus case on March 8 last year and the first death on March 18 the same year.

According to Worldometer’s Covid-19 data, the deadly virus has killed 44,57,729 people globally and infected 21,35,08,521 while 19,10,69,490 made recovery as of today afternoon.
