115 more deaths, 8,822 COVID-19 cases

Bangladesh on Wednesday recorded 8,822 cases from novel coronavirus in last 24 hours, the highest daily cases since March 8 last year when country saw its first case.

With the new figure, the total number of confirmed cases rose to 9,13,258.

During this timeline, 115 deaths were also reported from Covid-19 -the second-highest ever- taking the total death toll to 14,503.

The highest number of deaths recorded in a day was 119 on June 27 this year.

Health authorities also reported 4,550 more recoveries over the preceding 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 8,16,250 according to data released by the government.

In the last 24 hours, 565 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country collected 37,086 samples and tested 35,105.

With this, a total of 66,08,927 samples were tested in the country.

Among 115 deaths, 72 are male and 43 female, the press release said, adding that four were in their 20s, 12 in their 30s, 17 in their 40s, and 25 in their 50s while 57 were above 60 years.

The infection rate is 25.13 per cent in the last 24 hours, compared to the samples tested, while the overall infection rate is 13.82 per cent.

So far, the recovery rate is 89.38 per cent and the mortality rate is 1.59 per cent.

China reported first death from the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province, on January 11 last year.

Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus case on March 8 last year and the first death on March 18 the same year.

According to Worldometer’s Covid-19 data, the deadly virus has killed 39,55,942 people globally and infected 18,26,78,933 while 16,72,80,127 made recovery as of today afternoon.
