12 men arrested over ‘sabotage plan’ in city
11 February 2015, Nirapad News: In several drives, Police arrested at least 12 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat-Shibir for ‘sabotage plan’ from different places of the city during a drive continuing for 24 hours till this (Wednesday) morning.
Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman said nine leaders and activists of BNP and three of Jamaat and Shibir were arrested for planning subversive activities during the ongoing countrywide indefinite transport blockade, enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
The fourth day of the 120-hour nationwide hartal, enforced by the BNP-led alliance as part of its movement for what it says resorting democracy and people’s voting right and protesting the government’s ‘repressive acts’ and growing incidents of extrajudicial killing, is passing off peacefully alongside the blockade.
While its 72-hour nationwide hartal was scheduled to end at 6.00 am Wednesday, the alliance on Tuesday extended it by 48 hours till 6.00 am Friday.
In a statement, BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, on behalf of the alliance, announced the extended shutdown programme.
