1227 mandaps in Bogra, Satkhira, Meherpur to celebrate Durga puja
14 October 2015, Nirapad News: The pals (sculptors) in the country are passing busy days in making idol of goddess Durga ahead of Durga puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community.
The puja is scheduled to begin on October 19 and end on October 23.
A total of 1227 puja mandaps are being prepared in three districts- Bogra, Satkhira and Meherpur– to celebrate the Durga puja.
In Bogra, some 629 mandaps will be erected in the district which is more than previous year. Meanwhile, the district and the police administrations have taken all-out security measures to observe the festival peacefully.
A source of the police administration said this year they have divided the mandaps in three sections – general, important, and more important– considering security reasons.
The intelligence department has identified 153 mandaps vulnerable and has taken three-tier security measures near those mandaps.
Of the total puja mandaps, 214 have been identified as important and 262 as general. Extra security forces will be deployed to ensure peaceful environment at those mandaps.
Besides, security forces in plain clothes and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members with metal detectors will also patrol the puja venues.
Bogra Superintended of Police (SP) Md Asaduzzaman said police will remain alert during the festival period.
In Satkhira, Separate executive committees for celebrating Durga Puja have already been formed to ensure peaceful environment in the mandap areas.
Security measures have been beefed up as police and volunteer teams are monitoring the puja venues to observe the festival without any obstruction and in a peaceful manner.
Satkhira Superintendent of Police Chowdhury Monjurul Kabir said, this year, some 562 puja mandaps will be set up in seven upazilas of the district, up by 22 from last year.
Of those, 106 are in Tala, 104 in Satkhira Sadar, 100 in Ashashuni, 74 under Patkelghata Police Station, 64 in Shyamnagar, 52 in Kaliganj, 42 in Kalaroa and 20 in Debhata upazilas. Of those, 92 mandaps are highly vulnerable and 142 less vulnerable.
President of Satkhira district Puja Udjapon Parishad Monoranjan Mukherjee told The Daily Observer, “Local administration and people are cooperating to celebrate the puja in a peaceful environment.”
In Meherpur, this year, Durga puja will be held here in 36 mandaps. In this connection, idol-makers are passing busy times to give a finishing touch to the idols.
According to the district administration and district puja udjapon committee, 13 mandaps have been set up in Sadar upazila, 17 in Gangni and six in Mujibnagar upazila.
President of district puja udjapon committee Dr. Ramesh Chandra Nath said this year, one puja mandap has been added.
Marking the preparations of the Durga puja, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shafiqul Islam held a meeting with the Hindu community leaders and others recently.
He urged people of all sections to cooperate in holding the puja festival successfully. The government has allotted 500 kgs rice for each puja mandap as grant, the DC added.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Hamidul Alam said they have taken all-out measures to celebrate the festival peacefully.
