16 March 2015, Nirapad News: At least 13 people, including eight soldiers, have been injured in a clash with local tribal people demanding the relocation of a BGB battalion in Dighinala Upazila in Khagrhachharhi district.
Army’s Dighinala zone Adjutant Capt Touhidul Islam said the clash broke out around Sunday noon when a group of tribal people took out a march under the ‘Dighinala Land Protection Committee’.
The demonstrators fought pitched battles with police and the army. “Eight soldiers were injured,” but could not name them. They have received treatment. Demonstrators alleged 21 tribal families were evicted when the BGB’s 51st battalion headquarters was set up at Babuchharha last year.
The committee’s Member Secretary Dharmajyoti Chakma said they held a scheduled march towards the headquarters to press for the relocation of the BGB battalion, rehabilitation of the tribal families, and the withdrawal of cases against the tribesmen.
He alleged the army and police barricaded a street at Karbari Tila area. “At least five of our men were injured in the ensuing pitched battles,” he claimed but could not name any of them.
