166 Covid deaths, 6,364 new cases

With the deaths 166 more people in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am on Friday, Bangladesh’s Covid-19 death count now stands at 18,851.

On Thursday, the country saw 187 Covid deaths and 173 the day before yesterday.

During this timeline, 6,364 fresh cases were reported, taking the total virus cases to 11,46,768.

Health authorities also reported 9,006 more recoveries over the preceding 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 9,78,616 according to data released by the government.

In the last 24 hours, 639 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country collected 19,705 and tested 20,493.

With this, a total of 73,96,867 samples were tested in the country.

Among 166 deaths, 95 are male and 71 female, the press release said, adding that two were in their 10s, seven in their 20s, 15 were in their 30s, 24 in their 40s, and 32 in their 50s while 46 were above 60 years.

The infection rate is 31.05 per cent in the last 24 hours, compared to the samples tested, while the overall infection rate is 15.50 per cent.

So far, the recovery rate is 85.35 per cent and the mortality rate is 1.64 per cent.

China reported first death from the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province, on January 11 last year.

Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus case on March 8 last year and the first death on March 18 the same year.

According to Worldometer’s Covid-19 data, the deadly virus has killed 41,54,821 people globallyand infected 19,35,84,654 while 17,58,62,033 made recovery as of today afternoon.
