174 Covid deaths, 6,959 fresh cases

Bangladesh on Monday reported 174 fatalities from novel coronavirus in the 24 hours to 8 am, taking the death toll to 24,349.

The virus caseload surged to 1,425,861 after reporting of 6,959 new cases in a day, according to the latest government data.

Dhaka registered 70 deaths and 4,170 infections as it recorded the most daily deaths and cases. Chattogram also saw 37 deaths and 1,159 cases, Khulna 19 deaths and 368 cases, and Rajshahi 17 deaths and 361 cases.

Meanwhile, 9,268 Covid-19 infected patients made recovery, bringing the recovery counts to 1,301,966.

As many as 33,015 samples were tested across the country, yielding the positivity rate of 21.08 per cent, while the recovery rate is 91.31 per cent and the mortality rate 1.71 per cent.

China reported first death from the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province, on January 11 last year.

Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus case on March 8 last year and the first death on March 18 the same year.

According to Worldometer’s Covid-19 data, the deadly virus has killed 43,78,203 people globally and infected 20,81,52,349 while 18,66,03,909 made recovery as of today afternoon.
