2 probe bodies formed, 5 cops suspended over vendor’s death
06 February 2016, Nirapad News: Five police officials have been suspended over the death of a tea seller, who received severe burn injuries in an alleged attack of police in city’s Mirpur area.
The suspended cops are three sub-inspectors (SI) Maminur Rahman, Niazuddin Molla and Sridham Chandra Howlader, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Debendranath and a constable Jashimuddin of Shah Ali Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has formed two probe teams to investigate into the incident.
Shah Ali police station officer-in-charge AKM Shahin Mondal informed the matter to banglanews on Thursday night.
On Wednesday night, Babul with 95 percent burn injuries was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where he succumbed to his injuries around 1:30pm Thursday.
Babul’s family members claimed that a team of police officials and their source, led by Shah Ali Thana SI Sredam Chandra Hawlader, killed Babul as he declined to give extortion.
The family members also filed a case with the thana concerned against seven people including Parul, Delwar, Aiyub Ali, Robin, Shankar, Dulal Hawlader and Parvin.
However, police arrested Parul, identified as a drug peddler.
