20-party’s blockade enters 75th day
21 March 2015, Nirapad News: The countrywide indefinite transport blockade, enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance, stepped into the 75th day on Saturday.
In the capital, police arrested 11 leaders and activists of BNP, Jamaat-Shibir and Hizb-ut Tahrir for ‘sabotage plan’ from different places of the city during a drive continuing for 24 hours till this (Saturday) morning.
Deputy commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Masudur Rahman said eight leaders and activists of BNP, two of Jamaat-Shibir and one activist of Hizb-ut Tahrir were arrested from different parts of the city.
They were arrested for planning subversive activities during the countrywide non-stop transport blockade, enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance, he said.
Vehicular movement was normal while a large number of law enforcers remained deployed in different parts of the city to fend off any trouble. No picketing was seen till filing of this report around 10.00 am on Saturday.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia enforced the blockade for an indefinite period on January 5 after having failed to come out of her Gulshan office to join a planned rally of the 20-party alliance in the city to mark ‘Democracy Killing Day’.
