Calling upon all party candidates of the ongoing elections to obey party discipline, Awami League general Secretary Obaidul Quader warned of facing a ‘dire consequence’ for breaching rules.
“I’m calling you (candidates) to abide by the party discipline regarding the candidate selection for the current elections to city corporations, pourasava and union parishad. Otherwise, the violators will have to face dire consequences,” he said.
Obaidul Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges Minister, came up with the warning while speaking the first general meeting of the sub-committee on Liberation War Affairs through video conferencing on Tuesday.
“There are and will competitions among nomination aspirants in our party. This is the beauty. But, we nominate the most acceptable and popular grass-root leaders on the basis of opinions from leaders of all levels. Our party instruction is all leaders and activists will work unitedly for the candidate after getting election symbol. There is no scope for becoming a rebel candidate going against the instruction,” said the senior AL leader.
Urging the AL rebel candidates for no creating divisions inside the party after violating discipline, he again warned that AL won’t compromise with the rebel candidates.
Committee chairman Rashidul Alam presided over the meeting, moderated by membersecretary Mrinal Kanti Das MP.
