Bangladesh is all set for commencement of Covid-19 vaccination programme on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will open the vaccination programme virtually at the Kurmitola General Hospital.
The hospital’s senior staff nurse Runu Veronica Costa will be the first person in the country’s history to be vaccinated.
Senior staff nurses Munni Khatun and Rina Sarkar will also be vaccinated alongwith Runu.
Besides, Medicine consultant Dr Ahmed Lutfor Mobin will also take the vaccine as the first physician.
Under the programme, a team of 24 frontliners including physicians, nurses, freedom fighters, teachers, police and army members and journalists, will be vaccinated in the same hospital on the first day.
On Thursday, four more hospitals– Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Mugda General Hospital, Kuwait Friendship Hospital and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University–will begin the vaccination programme.
Authorities of all the hospitals informed that allout preparations have been taken to start the vaccination programme.
Meanwhile, the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine, gifted by India, has already reached in the country and the first consignment containing five million doses of vaccine purchased by Bangladesh from licensed manufacturers Serum Institute of India under the brand name Covishield has arrived safely in Dhaka on January 21.
