Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen on Tuesday asked media not to be enthusiastic while covering the news of diplomats stationed in Dhaka.

“The media of our country publish the remarks of ambassadors with focus and enthusiastic way which is unfortunate. Journalists of those countries never ask any questions on any subject to our ambassadors. These practices should be stopped,” Momen told journalists inaugurating a cardiac center at Mount Adora Hospital in Sylhet on Tuesday.

On Sunday, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Chatterton Dickson said the next national election in Bangladesh is going to be a “very important moment” for all which will help the country build better and productive relationship with its friends globally.

Dickson further said it will be easier for everybody to have a “productive friendship” with Bangladesh if the election is carried out in a way which is “free, fair and credible.”

The Foreign Minister said, “The caretaker government system was introduced in the country for free, fair and transparent elections. But BNP has destroyed this system. Now they want to teach democracy. They always want to come to power through the back door.”

He said, “BNP has to come to the people. The people are the owners of the vote and the country. There will be a transparent Election Commission. The election that will be held through that commission must be transparent.”

Mayor of Sylhet City Corporation Ariful Haque Chowdhury, organizing secretary of Awami league Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, Vice Chancellor of Sylhet Medical University Professor Morshed Ahmed Chowdhury, Sylhet division health directorate director Dr Himanshu Lal Roy and Director of Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital Brigadier General Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan were present at the event.
