The holy month of Ramadan is likely to begin on April 3 or April 4 next provided the new moon is sighted.

Islamic Foundation on Tuesday (March 8) released the time-table of Sehri and Iftar considering April 3 as the first day of Ramadan. On March 5 last, Islamic Foundation finalised the Sehri and Iftar timings. The time-table has been published on the Islamic Foundation’s website.

According to the new time-table, the last time of Sehri and Iftar in Dhaka is 4:27am 6:19pm on the first Ramadan on April 3. However, the Islamic Foundation has said people of different parts of the country will be able to take Sehri and break fasting for Iftar adding up to 11 minutes and deducting 10 minutes with Dhaka’s timings on the basis of distances.

Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, is a time when Muslims across the world fast from sunrise to sunset.

The end of Ramadan, when the new moon is sighted, marks Eid-ul Fitr, which is the start of the Shawwal month.

The Islamic calendar follows the phases of the moon, commonly known as the lunar cycle. As a result, the holy month of Ramadan falls approximately 10 days earlier each year in the Gregorian calendar.
