3 killed in Rajshahi road crash

At least three persons including a schoolgirl were killed and five others injured when a bus rammed into a roadside shop here this morning.

According to the police and local sources, the accident occurred at Naodapara Bazar area on Rajshshi-Naogaon highway under Shahmukhdum Police Station in the city around 11.30 am.

The deceased were identified as Anika, 13, daughter of Rustam Ali, Ismail Hossain Pinku, 24, son of Islam Ali and Sabuj Islam, 32, son of Muhammad Ali. All of them are the residents of Naodapara area.

Zillur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahmukhdum Police Station, said Pinku and Sabuj were killed on the spot. On information, police and fire fighters rushed to the spot and sent the injured persons to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where Anika succumbed to her injuries.

Anika was a student of class seven.

Quoting witnesses OC Zillur Rahman told that a Naogaon-bound bus Arrow Bengal from Rajshahi hit a motorbike and rammed into a roadside shop resulting the casualties.

In protest against the accident, local people put barricade on the Rajshahi-Naogaon road. They damaged a bus and a truck at the area. Additional police forces were deployed at the area and they brought the situation under control.

Soon after the accident, both driver and helper of the bus managed to escape. But police seized the bus, the OC added.
