Replying to a tabled question from M Abdul Latif MP (Chittagong-11), the minister said there is a scarcity of public toilets against the demand in the city and many of the existing public toilets are unusable.
Moreover, the existing toilets are not user-friendly for women and physically challenged people due to poor management and technical limitations, he added.
A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed among Dhaka City North Corporation, Dhaka South City Corporation, Dhaka WASA and WaterAid to construct new toilets, renovate and reconstruct the existing ones keeping separate systems for women, men and physically challenged people, and to ensure sanitation facilities for the city dwellers, Ashraf noted. Accordingly a modern toilet featuring all the facilities has already been constructed at Gabtoli bus terminal, he said.
