38 Covid deaths, 1,676 new cases

Bangladesh on Sunday saw another 38 deaths and 1,676 cases from novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till 8 am today.

With the new figures, the caseload stood at 8,10,990 while the death toll from the virus surged to 12,839.

On Saturday, 43 persons died from the virus and 1,447 were positive.

Health authorities also reported 1,895 more recoveries over the preceding 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 7,51,322, according to data released by the government.

In the last 24 hours, 509 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country collected 15,529 samples and tested 15,613.

With this, a total of 60,49,873 samples were tested in the country.

Among the 38 deaths, 25 were male and 13 female. Of them, one was between 21-30, three between 31-40, two between 41-50, nine between 51-60 and 23 were above 60 years old.

The infection rate is 10.73 per cent in the last 24 hours, compared to the samples tested, while the overall infection rate is 13.41 per cent.

So far, the recovery rate is 92.64 per cent and the mortality rate is 1.58 per cent.

China reported first death from the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province, on January 11 last year.

Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus case on March 8 last year and the first death on March 18 the same year.

According to Worldometer’s Covid-19 data, the deadly virus has killed 37,37,566 people globally and infected 17,37,68,146 while 15,66,47,216 made recovery as of today afternoon.
