40 Covid-19 deaths, 1,819 fresh cases
Covid-19 deaths are on rise again as Bangladesh on Tuesday reported 40 more fatalities from the virus.
With this, Covid-19 death count now stands at 12,441.
During the last 24 hours until 8:00 am, 1,819 fresh cases were reported, taking the total virus cases to 7,92,196.
Health authorities also reported 1,279 more recoveries over the preceding 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 7,32,810, according to data released by the government.
In the last 24 hours, 486 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country collected 16,643 samples and tested 16,624.
With this, a total of 58,54,919 samples were tested in the country.
Among 40 deaths, 26 are male and 14 female, the press release said, adding that two were in their 20s, five in their 40s, and 12 in their 50s while 17 were above 60 years.
The infection rate is 10.08 per cent in the last 24 hours, compared to the samples tested, while the overall infection rate is 13.53 per cent.
So far, the recovery rate is 92.50 per cent and the mortality rate is 1.57 per cent.
China reported first death from the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province, on January 11 last year.
Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus case on March 8 last year and the first death on March 18 the same year.
According to Worldometer’s Covid-19 data, the deadly virus has killed 34,88,512 people globally and infected 16,80,22,914 while 14,93,66,520 made recovery as of today afternoon.
