419 tonnes of VGF rice for Durga Puja in Rangpur

14 October 2015, Nirapad News: The government has allocated 419 tonnes of special VGF rice for distribution among 838 puja mandaps in the district to assist the Hindu community in celebrating their greatest religious festival Durga Puja.
The district administration with the help of upazila administrations and district and upazila units of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) will complete distribution of the rice among the mandaps authorities by October 17.
Talking to BSS today, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) of Rangpur Md. Faridul Haque said Disaster Management Division of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief has allocated 500 kilograms of VGF rice for each puja mandap.
Under the programme, 108.50 tonnes of rice has been allocated for 217 puja mandaps in Sadar upazila including Rangpur City Corporation, 59 tonnes for 118 mandaps in Mithapukur, 43.50 tonnes for 87 mandaps in Pirganj, 43 tonnes for 86 mandaps in Pirgachha and 26 tonnes for 52 mandaps in Kawnia upazila including Haragachh pourasabha.
Besides, 48 tonnes of rice has been allocated for distribution among 96 puja mandaps in Gangachara upazila, 59.50 tonnes for 119 mandaps in Badarganj upazila including Badarganj pourasabha and 31.50 tonnes for distribution among 63 puja mandaps in Taraganj upazila.
The necessary preparations have been completed for distribution of the special VGF rice among the puja mandap authorities and the process of distribution will be completed before the festival begins, the DRRO added.
According to the sources in the district and upazila units of BPUP, erection of the idols of Goddess Durga has almost been completed and the artists are now very busy in giving idols the final touches in all eight upazilas in the district.
President of district unit of BPUP and Trustee of Hindu Kalyan Trust Advocate Rothish Chandra Bhowmick thanked the government for allocating VGF rice to assist the Hindu community people in celebrating Durga Puja from October 18.
