48-hr hartal’s second day passing off peacefully
19 March 2015, Nirapad News: The second day of the 48-hour nationwide hartal, enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance demanding safe return of ‘missing’ BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed to his family members alongside its ongoing countrywide indefinite transport blockade, is underway peacefully today (Thursday).
No procession or picketing was seen in support of the hartal in the city. Presence of motorised vehicles was almost normal on the streets of the capital.
A large number of law enforcers remained deployed in different parts of the capital to fend off any trouble.
BNP joint secretary general Barkatullah Bulu, on behalf of the alliance, announced the fresh shutdown program on Tuesday.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia enforced the blockade for an indefinite period on January 5 after having failed to come out of her Gulshan office to join a planned rally of the 20-party alliance in the city to mark ‘Democracy Killing Day’.
