02 February 2017, Nirapad News: A guardian has sued five people, including the Haimchar upazila chairman of Chandpur district, for walking over a ‘human bridge’ made of schoolchildren during the sports day of Nilkamal Osmania High School. Ali Ahmad, a guardian of a student of the school, filed the lawsuit with Haimchar police on Wednesday night, terming the upazila chairman’s behavior against children cruel.

The accused in the case are — Haimchar upazila chairman Nur Hossain Patwary, Nilkamal Osmania High School’s managing body president Humayun Patwary, principal Mosharraf Hossain and members Mansur Ahmad and Abul Bashar.

Haimchar police officer in-charge Mahbubur Rahman said legal action will be taken against the accused after investigation.

A picture that shows the upazila chairman walking on a human bridge went viral on Facebook, which led to the filing of the case. It showed a group of schoolboys lined up facing each other in two rows, holding hands. They are holding up another line of boys lying who are facing downwards, forming the human bridge. Some boys are kneeling down to create the stairs. Nur Hossain Patwary climbed up and walked on the backs of these boys, as if crossing a bridge.

The picture has elicited a volley of criticism on the social media. This is not the first time this has happened in the school. Whenever they have a chief guest, they make this human bridge for him to cross.
