Nirapad News: Police on Tuesday afternoon arrested five Rohingya women along with a suspected human trafficker from the regional passport office in the town.

They are Sakhina, 22, Faresa, 25, Jesmin Ara, 23, Humaira, 22, and Samira, 20. They all hail from different areas of Myanmar’s Arakan province.

The suspected human trafficker is Elias Hossain, son of Mohammad Shafique of Pakashiakali village of Cox’s Bazar district.

Kazi Haniful Islam, officer in-charge of Detective Branch of Police in Pabna, said being tipped-off, a team of the law enforcers raided the office and detained the five women along with Elias.

During primary interrogation, Elias confessed that the detained women cannot speak Bangla and he brought them to Pabna from Cox’s Bazar to arrange Bangladeshi passports.

Mohammad Miraj Uddin, superintendent of police in Pabna, said a Cox’s Bazar based travel agency brought the five to the passport in a bid to obtain Bangladeshi passports.

The five women were supposed to be trafficked to the gulf countries by the trafficking gang, the SP said.
