55,200 cartons foreign cigarettes seized at Chittagong port
18 February 2015, Nirapad News: Customs officials seized 55,200 cartons of foreign cigarettes from a container at Chittagong Port on Wednesday. Cigarettes, which were imported with false declaration is worth about Tk 10 crore.
Tipped off, a team of customs officials seized the cigarettes imported from Singapore, assistant commissioner of customs Pervez Zaman said to the press.
SK Traders of Dhaka imported the cigarettes declaring those as cosmetics to evade tax, he said. Legal action will be taken against SK Traders and its Chittagong agent Sohel Traders, he added. However, no one was arrested in this connection.
