72 hours hartal underway peacefully on third day
24 March 2015, Nirapad News: The third day of another 72-hour spell of nationwide hartal, enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance, demanding the release of its detained leaders and activists and the safe return of missing BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed alongside its ongoing countrywide indefinite transport blockade, is underway peacefully on Tuesday.
The shutdown will end at 6:00 am on Wednesday if it is not extended further as the alliance did earlier seven times.
No procession or picketing was seen in support of the hartal in the city. Presence of motorized vehicles was almost normal on the capital streets.
A large number of law enforcers remained deployed in different parts of the capital to fend off any trouble.
The BNP alliance made the announcement through a press release signed by BNP joint secretary general Barkat Ullah Bulu.
The hartal is also meant for registering the 20-party’s protest against forced disappearance, abduction, extrajudicial killings, torture and arrest of the party men.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia enforced the blockade for an indefinite period on January 5 after having failed to come out of her Gulshan office to join a planned rally of the 20-party alliance in the city to mark ‘Democracy Killing Day’.
