79 Mro insurgents surrender

07 November 2015, Nirapad News: Abandoning their life in the wild 79 members of Mro National Defense Party (MNDP) led by their leader Commander Menroom Mro surrendered with 52 weapons and huge ammunition.
The surrender follows successful negotiations with the local Mro Social Council, Security Forces and elected representatives of the area.
The surrender ceremony was organized at a remote shoal of the Sangu River near Kroppata Military Camp about 30 kilometers away from Ali Kadam Upazila headquarters at 2 pm today.
The chief guest on the occasion was State Minister for Hill Tracts’ Bir Bahadur, MP, while the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and Area Commander, Chittagong, Major General Shafiqur Rahman was the special guest.
Bandarban Region Commander Brigadier General Nakib Ahmed Chowdhury, Chairman, Hill Tracts’ District Council, Kashoi Hla, Superintendent of Police (SP) Mizanur Rahman and acting Deputy Commissioner Md Abu Zafar and Chairman of the Mro Social Council Ranglai Mro were present.
The leader of the MNDP submitted a 12-point charter of demand to the state authorities which the state minister, Bir Bahadur, said was accepted by the government.
The demands include land grants and rehabilitation for the former insurgents. The educated and skilled among them would also be provided with government jobs. Besides, all of them were awarded an amount of Tk 10,000.
