8,000 metre current nets seized in Rajshahi
7 October 2015, Nirapad News: A mobile court yesterday seized 8,000 metres of current nets from different points of Padma river under Bagha upazila of the district.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Upazila Fisheries Officer (UFO) accompanied by a BGB team conducted a combing operation and seized the huge nets and fishes.
However, none could be arrested in this connection as the fishermen fled away leaving behind the nets.
UFO Aminul Islam told journalists that the fishermen were catching hilsha fishes defying the government ban. The seized nets were destroyed in presence of the local people.
In another drive, huge current nets and fishing materials worth around Taka 20 lakh were seized and destroyed in different areas under Mohanpur Upazila of the district yesterday.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Alamgir Kabir in association with a police team conducted raids at different water bodies and wetlands and seized the illegal fishing nets and materials.
