8th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge Deal signed
DHAKA, Dec 11, 2014 Nirapad News : The government today signed minutes of meeting (MoM) with the Chinese government for construction of the 8th Bangladesh- China Friendship Bridge over Kocha River in Pirojpur district.
Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Division, Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges MAN Siddique and Economic and Commercial Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Dhaka Wang Zijian signed the MoM on behalf of their respective sides.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader witnessed the MoM signing ceremony as the chief guest, while Charge d Affairs of Chinese Embassy Qu Guang Zhou and a Chinese delegation were present.
The minister said construction work of the 1.5 kilometre long bridge would begin in January 2016 and it will be completed in three years.
“The total cost for construction of the friendship bridge has been fixed at Taka 1,000 crore, of which Chinese government would provide Taka 800 crore, while the rest will come from Bangladesh government,” Quader said.
Expressing his gratitude to the Chinese government, he said the 8th friendship bridge would join Barisal and Khulna division through road communications.
He said the Chinese government would also conduct on-site-investigation for construction of two or three more bridges, adding, “Working for construction of the 9th and 10th friendship bridges would begin.”
Obaidul Quader said the construction of the bridge on Barisal-Khulna road would facilitate smooth movement of the people in the region along with easy transportation of agricultural products.
“Chinese initiative would also enhance Bangladesh-China relationship stronger,” the minister added.
During the MoM signing ceremony, Chief Engineer of Road Transport and Highways M Feroz Iqbal, third secretary of Chinese Embassy Zhohang Hygang, Zhao Guochun, international engineering department business executive of Henan Provincial Communications Planning, Survey and Design Institute Con., Ltd and officials concerned were present.
