Health Minister Zahid Maleque has hinted that the frontline workers, not the VVIPs, will be vaccinated first on receiving the consignments of vaccine doses.

The minister revealed the information after attending a meeting at the DGHS on Tuesday.

“We’re thinking about bringing those under vaccination first who need it. The frontliners like doctors, nurses, police and journalists will be vaccinated first not the VVIPs,” he said.

Zahid Maleque also informed that some 20 lakh doses of Oxford-Astrazenca Covid-19 vaccines (Covishield) gifted by the Indian government to Bangladesh likely to reach tomorrow (Wednesday) or the day after tomorrow.

He said that the vaccination programme will begin through vaccinating the health workers at the union level.

The minister also informed that right now there was no plan to vaccinate the president and prime minister first like many countries.
