Bangladesh on Monday reported 30 deaths, the highest death toll in the last 24 hours since January 8, taking the COVID-19 death count to 8,720.
During this timeline, 2,809 fresh cases were reported, taking the total virus cases to 5,73,687. It is the highest daily count since August 20 last year.
On Sunday, the country witnessed 22 deaths and 2,172 cases.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) confirmed the matter through a press release signed by Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of DGHS, on today afternoon.
Health authorities also reported 1,754 more recoveries over the preceding 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 5,24,159.
As many as 25,111 samples were tested across the country in the last 24 hours, with the positivity rate of 11.19 per cent.
In the last 24 hours, 219 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country collected 26,001 samples and tested 25,111.
With this, a total of 44,43,230 samples were tested in the country.
Currently, the recovery rate is 91.37 per cent and infection rate is 12.94 per cent, while the mortality rate stands at 1.52 per cent.
According to Worldometer’s COVID-19 data, the deadly virus has killed 27,29,022 people globally and infected 12,39,35,320 as of today afternoon.
China reported first death from the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province, on January 11 last year.
Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus case on March 8 last year and the first death on March 18 the same year.
