The High Court has issued a contempt of court rule against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal for not registering Ganasamhati Andolon as a political party.

An HC bench of Justice Mamnun Rahman and Justice Khondker Diliruzzaman issued the rule on Thursday after hearing on a petition filed by Ganasamhati Andolon coordinator Zonayed Saki.

In the rule, the HC wanted to know why the CEC would not be punished.

The court also directed to explain it within four weeks.

The HC on April 11, 2019, ordered the Election Commission to register Ganosamhati Andolan as a political party within 30 days.
