Absence of elected govt gave rise to unjust incidents: Nazrul
03 August 2015, Nirapad News: BNP senior leader Nazrul Islam Khan has alleged that unjust incidents, including assaults on women, have marked a sharp rise in the country for the absence of an elected government in power.
Addressing a discussion, he also regretted that the women organizations and rights bodies are now not vocal against the repression on women and children on Sunday.
“This government is successfully regulating the human rights and women rights bodies by making some leaders of those organizations ministers, MPs and giving trade facilities. Once they’d made the country unstable for a Yasmin, but now they’re keeping their mouths shut though many Yasmins are being oppressed every day.”
Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, BNP’s women wing, arranged the programme at the Jatiya Press Club protesting the ‘continued brutal repression on women and children in the country’.
Nazrul, a BNP standing committee member, however praised the media for their strong role against the assault on women. “The media deserve thanks as they are really playing a more active role than the political parties against repression on women.”
He alleged that those involved in the assault on women are not being arrested and punished as they belong to the ruling party.
He said the incidents like repression on children and women will not be contained until an elected government assumes office.
The BNP leader urged all to get united to save the country, its people and democracy from the ‘misrule’ of Awami League.
Addressing the programme, pro-BNP professional and ex-Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Emajuddin Ahmed said criminal incidents are on the rise as the country’s politics has got polluted and poisonous. “As long as this poison can’t be removed from the politics, the rights of women and children won’t be ensured.”
