Afridi might miss out on Bangladesh game due to illness
15 March 2016, Nirapad News: Pakistan T20 captain Shahid Afridi, a day after raising furore back home with his ‘love for India’ statement, and just a day prior to his side’s all crucial opening game against Bangladesh in the Super 10 stage of the ICC World T20 2016, has fallen ill.
Afridi has reportedly skipped the team’s training session, citing ‘fever’, and now is a doubt for Wednesday’s encounter against Bangladesh at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
While giving an update on Afridi, Pakistani team manager Intikhab Alam said he was down with fever in the morning. “He over trained himself. He’s had slight fever in the morning and we opted to give him rest,” Alam said, as the rest of the Pakistani camp trained for more than two hours in the morning.
For his statement that he got ‘more love’ in India than in Pakistan, Afridi received much flak back home with the legendary Javed Mianadad blasting him ‘shame on you’. He was also served legal notice for talking nice of India, which was ‘against the interest of Pakistan’.
A big boost emerging from the training sessions was Mohammad Sami’s burst back to fitness. The paceman, who picked up a knock during the first training session, was feared to miss out on the Bangladesh game. But Sami reportedly did two rounds of the stadium and trained well, indicating the speedster’s recovery from injury.
