All 32 deaths normal : Director General Health Services
10 February 2015, Nirapad News: Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Deen Muhammad Nurul Haque has termed the deaths of 10 children at Osmani Medical Hospital as a normal incident. He made the statement while addressing the media regarding the incident at the secretariat on Tuesday afternoon.
He said: “The children died normally. Four of them died due to diseases caused from the complexity of their mothers during their pregnancy period, three from septicemia with malnutrition, one for intestine problem, two for Diarrhea and bronco-pneumonia.”
Regarding the deaths of 22 others, he said: “Four died in brain stroke, three in acute heart attack, two in normal heart attack, one each in tuberculosis, diabetic, unknown poison, brain infection, anemia”.
He added that five people who were critically injured in a clash died, while three died of incidents during assault and accidents.
State Minister for Health Affairs Jahid Mallek said: “The probe team will investigate if there was any incident of negligence regarding the matter.”
“We will take all the necessary steps regarding it if such things are proven against the authorities of the hospital,” he said.
Ten children, including five newborns, died in 24 hours at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Meanwhile, twenty-two others died at the hospital from various diseases and road crashes.
