All elections in the country postponed: CEC

All the elections including the union parishad (UP) polls scheduled for April 11 have been postponed by the Election Commission (EC).

Besides, elections to 11 municipalities
and by-election to Luxmipur-2 constituency scheduled for April 11 have also been postponed.

It was decided at the 78th meeting of the EC held at the Nirbachan Commission Bhaban at Agargaon in the city on Thursday.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda chaired the meeting.

Following the meeting, EC’s additional secretary Ashoke Kumar Debnath briefed journalists about the decisions at the meeting.

He said the EC has postponed elections to 371 union parishads (UPs), 11 municipalities and by-election to Luxmipur-2 constituency which were scheduled to be held on April 11 next. Besides, the decision for announcement of schedule for Sunamganj-3 constituency has been postponed.

Ashoke Kumar Debnath said the EC took the decisions taking the prevailing coronavirus situation in the country.
