All to give us a bad name: Hasina
15 October 2015, Nirapad News: Those behind the killings of foreign nationals in Bangladesh aim to tarnish the country’s image by creating a ‘situation’, says Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“It was designed to give us a bad name. To create a situation,” she said on Wednesday during a call on her by the new Dutch Ambassador Leoni Cuelenaere.
“The situation is under full control of the government,” Hasina told the envoy.
Japanese citizen Kunio Hoshi was shot dead in Rangpur on Oct 3, five days after the killing of Italian aid worker Cesare Tavella at Dhaka’s diplomatic zone Gulshan.
The prime minister reiterated her government’s stance of zero tolerance to terrorism and militancy and expressed her firm attitude against these evil elements during the meeting with the envoy.
Hasina appreciated Dutch cooperation in land reclamation and agriculture in Bangladesh.
The Netherlands envoy congratulated the Hasina for receiving UN’s top environment award ‘Champions of the Earth’ and ‘The ICT Sustainable Development Award’ of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
Leoni Cuelenaere also lauded her leadership in achieving the MDGs.
She said her country could cooperate with Bangladesh in the areas of water management and shipping.
