Altaf Mahmud’s 2nd janaza held
24 January 2016, Nirapad News: The second namaz-e-janaza of eminent journalist Altaf Mahmud was held on National Press Club premises in city on Sunday afternoon (January 24).
It began around 12:15pm.
Information minister Hasanul Haq Inu, food minister Advocate Qamrul Islam, rail minister Mazibul Hoque, state minister for textile and jute Mirza Azam, PM’s information Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury and information secretary Golam Murtaza, among others, attended the janaza.
Family sources said that the deceased’s body will be brought to his home town Galachipa of Patuakhali district and will be buried beside his father.
Mahmud’s first namaz-e-janaza was held on Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) premises at 11:30am on the day.
Earlier at 8:40am on Sunday, Altaf Mahmood, the president of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in city.
He breathed his last at intensive care unit (ICU) at the hospital at the age of 65.
The senior journalist has been suffering from neurological problems and admitted to the hospital on January 14.
On January 21, a surgical operation was conducted in the backbone of Altaf Mahmud and then shifted to ICU.
