A consignment of 50 lakh doses of Sinopharm vaccine arrived in Dhaka from China early Saturday.
A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 2:00am with the consignment.
Dr Sazzad Hossain, assistant director of the Directorate General of Health Services, and other officials received the vaccine at the airport.
The vaccines were sent to Beximco’s warehouse at Tongi, said Dr Sazzad.
On 11 September, 54 lakh Sinopharm vaccine doses arrived in Dhaka from China.
Bangladesh has received more than 24.9 million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine so far. The government has signed an agreement to buy 30 million doses of the Chinese vaccine to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
