Anwar Chy attack verdict February 11
04 February 2015, Nirapad News: The High Court set February 11 for pronouncing appeal verdict in a case filed for attack on former British high commissioner Anwar Chowdhury.
A HC bench of justice M Enayetur Rahim and justice Amir Hossain fixed the date on Wednesday (February 03) after the argument of both side ended.
On January 14, the placement of argument began after reading out of paper book on appeal petition filed by defendants for three working days since January 6.
AKM Foyez moved for the defense while Attorney General (AG) Mahbubey Alam stood for the state. Deputy Attorney General AKM Moniruzzaman Kabir assisted the AG.
On May 21, 2004, Anwar Chowdhury, the Bangladesh-born British envoy, suffered minor leg injuries in the grenade explosion after Friday prayers at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) in Sylhet.
On December 23, 2008, the Sylhet Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal sentenced three militants of Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI), including its chief Mufti Abdul Hannan, to death in the attempt to murder case filed for the grenade attack.
Two other men were sentenced to life imprisonment for their involvement.
