Arguments on appeals in BDR carnage case starts at High Court
09 November 2015, Nirapad News: The prosecution in the sensational BDR carnage case started placing arguments on appeals before a special bench of the High Court today.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam started arguing before the three-member special High Court bench, headed by Justice Md Shawkat Hossain. The two members of the bench were Justice Md Abu Zafor Siddique and Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder.
According to the court sources, the arguments are being placed on the death references and criminal appeals.
The High Court on January 18, 2015, started hearing the appeals filed against a lower court order, which sentenced 152 to death, 160 to life in prison and 256 to different terms. The court also acquitted 278 people of the charges.
The state filed an appeal against the order that acquitted 69 specific accused, on the other hand the convicts lodged appeals challenging the order that sentenced them.
It was on February 25-26 in 2009 at the then BDR Headquarters at Pilkhana in the capital where 74 people, including 57 army officers, were killed.
