Atiur’s resignation a rare example of honesty : PM
15 March 2016, Nirapad News: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has termed Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman’s resignation an example of ‘moral courage and honesty’.
PM’s Press Secretary Ehsanul Karim told journalists at a press briefing held at the PMO on Tuesday afternoon.
“Dr Atiur Rahman tendered his resignation on Tuesday morning over an unwanted incident happened in the Bangladesh Bank. Accepting his resignation letter, the Prime Minister said that Dr Atiur took a courageous step which will remain be considered as a rare example of honesty and moral courage,” he said.
Mentioning Dr Atiur’s contribution to country’s economic development, the PM also said banking sector got a boost while foreign currency reserves increased during the tenure of Dr Atiur Rahman, said Karim.
PM Hasina also vowed to take action against those involved in money heist.
