Avijit murder suspect Farabi detained

02 March 2015, Nirapad News: In regard with the gruesome killing of popular blogger Avijit Roy, Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained Shafiur Rahman Farabi from Jatrabari area in the city on Monday.
Sources at the RAB headquarters said a team of the elite force held Farabi from Jatrabari area around 6 am.
In his Facebook status, posted on February 9, 2014, Farabi alleged the founder of blogging site Muktomona, Avijit Roy, had been distorting Quran and Hadith and circulating those online.
Farabi reportedly issued death threats to Avijit on social network Facebook on several occasions. He had written a Facebook post that read: “Avijit Roy lives in America and so it is not possible to kill him right now. He will be murdered when he comes back.”
Earlier in 2013, Farabi was arrested in a case for issuing death threats to an Imam for administering a burial ceremony for slain blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider. However, Farabi got temporary bail in that case.
Avijit Roy, son of Prof Ajoy Roy and founder of Mukta-Mona blog, was killed and his wife Rafida Afrin Banya injured as unidentified criminals stabbed them near TSC on Dhaka University (DU) Campus on Thursday night.
Prof Ajay Roy, father of the deceased and a former DU teacher, filed the case against some unnamed people with Shahbagh Police Station on Friday.
