Bangladesh and the European Union to sit for meeting on Friday
26 February 2015, Nirapad News: Bangladesh and the European Union (EU) are set to sit in a meeting on Friday to review their current relations and find ways to expand trade ties with the EU countries.
The meeting will focus on improving trade relations between Bangladesh and EU countries, identifying trade barriers and what steps need to be taken to remove the barriers, said a senior official at the Commerce Ministry on Thursday.
Additional Commerce Secretary, Free Trade Agreement (FTA) wing, Manoj Kumar Roy and Deputy Chief of the EU South and South East Asia unit Diana Acconcia will lead the Bangladesh and EU sides respectively at the meeting to be held at the state guest house Padma from 9:30am.
European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh Pierre Mayaudon will also be there on the EU side comprising 14 members. Issues like progress on sustainability compact, shipping services, investment environment apart from regional and sub regional issues will be discussed.
A trade sub-group of the EU-Bangladesh Joint Commission was formed and the fifth meeting of the group was held in 2011 in Dhaka. Meanwhile, a deal on flight operation titled ‘Bangladesh-EU Horizontal Aviation’ will be signed at the meeting. A joint press briefing will be held on Friday afternoon after the meeting to reveal its outcome.
