Bangladesh beats Sri Lanka by 1-0
2 February 2015, Nirapad News: Bangladesh wins by 1-0 against Sri Lanka in their last group match and moves to the Semi-final at the Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football Tournament 2015. They needed only one point to secure their semifinal position of the tournament. Hemanto, Bangladesh Mid fielder scored the winning goal at the 40th minute in the game.
Sri Lanka missed a penalty, their only significant opportunity in the match, on the 67th minute when Lankan midfielder Roshan’s spot kick was saved by goalkeeper Shahedul Islam.
Malaysia sealed a semifinal spot of the tournament beating the hosts with a solitary goal in their first match and Sri Lanka with a score of 2-0.
Before the match, Bangladesh skipper Mamunul Islam Mamun said that they were fully prepared for the match and they were looking to get full points against Sri Lanka in order to secure their semifinal berth. When Hemanta Vincent scored for Bangladesh in the 1st half whole stadium cheered up with the slogan “Tiger Tiger”.
