Bangladesh embassy in Thai set to celebrate 40th anniversary
09 December 2015, Nirapad News: To celebrate the 40th year of Bangladesh Embassy in Thailand, the Embassy is organizing a commemorative event at Thailand’s National Office of Buddhism Auditorium.
The event titled “Celebration of Bangladesh-Thailand Shree Buddha Maitri: A Tribute to Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej on his 88th Birthday” is set to be held on Wednesday (December 9), said press release sent from Embassy of Bangladesh.
Sanghanayaka Shuddhananda Mahathero, the Supreme Patriarch of Bangladesh Bouddha Bhikkhu Mahasabha and Vice President, World Fellowship of Buddhists has arrived in Bangkok with an 11-member delegation to grace the event as special guest.
As informed by Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Saida Muna Tasneem, “This unique event by the Embassy is expected to revive and reinforce the deep-rooted Buddhist linkages between Bangladesh and Thailand, which over the centuries have somewhat been lost in our memories”.
The event is scheduled to witness a prayer chanting ceremony by about Bangladeshi Buddhist Bhikkhus studying in Thailand to pay a tribute to the King of Thailand who has been a strong patron of the Buddhist Sanghas of Bangladesh.
Bangladeshi expatriate community members living in Thailand are joining the event through the offering of devotional Bangla songs.
A seminar titled “Enhancing Cultural Connectivity: Bangladesh-Thai Shree Buddha Maitri” will also be held on the occasion where Buddhism experts from Bangladesh including Dr. Dipankar Barua and Karunangshu Barua will be presenting key note papers.
More than 150 Bangladeshi Bouddha Bhikkhu students from different educational institutions and universities of Thailand and Buddhist scholars from Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar, Ambassadors and many other dignitaries are expected to join the program.
Two cabinet ministers of the Royal Thai Government will be gracing the occasion in addition to the acting Supreme Patriarch of Thailand Most Venerable Somdet Phra Maharatchamongkhalachan, who will lead the prayer chanting ceremony.
He is scheduled to hand over a special Buddha Image to Bangladesh Ambassador as a token of Maitri.
