Bangladesh lawmaker elected IPU human rights committee president
17 January 2016, Nirapad News: Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Railway Ministry of Bangladesh ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury was elected as the President of Human Rights Committee of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) today.
The election was held during the 149th meeting of the IPU at its headquarter in Geneva, Switzerland, an official handout said here.
Chowdhury, who replaced British Parliamentarian A Clywd, has already served as vice president of the committee in two terms.
A total of 47,000 members of parliaments of different countries under IPU, a platform of parliamentarians of 167 countries, have been working on human rights in their respective nations, said the handout.
