‘Bangladesh to be forerunner for SDG ‘

04 August 2015, Nirapad News: Bangladesh will be forerunner in reaching Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) as it has already fulfilled the targets of Millennium Development Goal (MDG) within the stipulated time.

Foreign secretary M Shahidul Haque made this expectation while talking to the media at foreign ministry in city Monday afternoon.

The United Nations (UN) fixed 15 years period from 2015 to 2030 to implement the targets where 193 countries lent their support on Sunday night and it is expected to be passed in UN general meeting in September.

The secretary said UN has fixed 17 targets in SDG which were recommended by the member countries.

The issues include peace keeping, justice, heath, women empowerment, climate change and poverty eradication.

Bangladesh also gave an important target, that is to create awareness about autism, Shahidul Haque said.

He said besides the international river water distribution issue, the use of sea on Bangladesh context was also included in the goal.
