24 October 2015, Nirapad News: Deputy Speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah on Friday said that Bangladesh will organize the 136th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in 2017.
The deputy speaker disclosed the matter returning from the 133rd IPU Assembly held in Geneva of Switzerland on October 17-21.
Members of Bangladesh delegation, joined in the 133rd IPU Assembly, were opposition leader Raushan Ershad, lawmakers Abul Kalam Azad, ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, M Nurul Islam Sujon, Moin Uddin Khan Badal, Fazle Hossain Badsha, Haji Mohammad Selim, Shirin Naim, Raushan Ara Mannan and Selim Uddin and senior secretary of parliament secretariat Ashrafil Maqbul.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) works for the enhancement and strengthening of democracy through the institution of parliament.
It does this based on the understanding that there is a fundamental relationship between gender equality in politics and democracy, and that more precisely the involvement of women in all aspects of political life is key to a more just and equitable society, as well as to stronger, more representative democracy.
