Bangladesh witnesses 2,695 new cases, 48 more deaths

Bangladesh on Thursday recorded 48 more deaths from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, mounting the death tally to 3,083.

The health authorities registered 2, 695 new cases after testing 12,937 samples in the period, taking the total cases to 234,889.

Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin broadcast from Mohakhali.

Against the 11,64,195 tests conducted, 20.18 percent have turned out positive. The fatality rate in Bangladesh is 1.31 percent.

The Health Ministry data show 2,668 patients have been cured from the infection, putting the total recovery to 132,960. The recovery rate is recorded at 56.61 percent.

Dr Nasima noted that among those who died in the last 24 hours, 36 were men and 12 were women. 41 of them died at the hospital and seven at home.

Dhaka saw 17 new deaths during the period. “17 died in Dhaka, 12 in Chattogram, five in Khulna, five in Sylhet, three in Rajshahi and six others died in Barishal, Mymensingh and Rangpur divisions.”

Age-based division of new deceased shows that one was between 31 and 40 years, four were between 41 and 50, 14 between 51 and 60, 12 between 61 and 70, 11 between 71 and 80, five between 81 and 90 and one more between 91 and 100 and years.

According to DGHS data recorded since March 18, over 1,400 people who died were above 60 years in the country. “So far, 18 patients who died below 10 years, 30 aged between 11 and 20, 85 between 21 and 30, 202 between 31 and 40, 435 between 41 and 50, 890 between 51 and 60 and 1423 aged above 60 years,” Dr Nasima said.

At present 18,568 people are in isolation while 57,425 are home and institutionally quarantined in the country.
