Bangladesh’s poultry sector to start export by 2018
21 February 2015, Nirapad News: Bangladesh’s poultry sector is expected to start poultry export by 2018, if the trend of current growth continues. The optimism came while President of World’s Poultry Science Association-Bangladesh Branch Moshiur Rahman was addressing the concluding session of the 9th International Poultry Show and Seminar- 2015 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) on Saturday.
“By 2018, we can start poultry exports, if we are able to maintain the current pace of growth in the poultry sector,” he added. Moshiur said the poultry sector has generated employment for nearly 60 lakh people and it will employ around one crore people by 2020.
FAO Country Representative Mike Robson, World’s Poultry Science Association International President Prof E. N. Silva, Secretary of World’s Poultry Science Association Dr Roel Mulder and General Secretary of Bangladesh Branch of World’s Poultry Science Association Rafiqul Haque, among others, addressed the function.
Mike Robson said the poultry industry will play a crucial role in meeting the nutritional demands of the people of Bangladesh. Intake of eggs and chicken meat should be increased among the Bangladeshi people for improving their nutritional status, he added.
Bangladesh’s poultry sector is growing by 16 percent annually, other speakers said if this growth rate is increased to 18 to 20 percent, chicken will be a leading source of meat by 2030.
